Skillset & Experience
Adobe products have been my main production software for my entire web design career. I remember starting to learn how to use Photoshop when it was at just version 4.0 in the late 90's. I am extremely proficient in the majority of the programs they offer, such as: Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Premiere, After Effects, Audition, Character Studio, Bridge, and Media Encoder.
Everyone has used Word, Excel or Powerpoint at some point in their career and the struggle to work with these programs can be very challenging at times. I have taken the time to learn and utilize Office products and have become very proficient in delivering customized documents, spreadsheets and especially animated and visually stunning presentations.
There are countless CMS packages to work with and Wordpress stands out as the most popular. Early into my career, I stumbled upon Joomla and it caught my attention and have been working with that particular software since its inception. I am also very familiar and capable working in Wordpress as well. I typically recommend Joomla to my clients, but I am always open to an alternative CMS or the popular Wordpress choice.
Career Timeline
1999-2001
Southern Alberta Institute of Technology
I jumped into my career choice right after high school. I had always liked computers and at that time I was tinkering with programs like Photoshop and Flash... so it made sense to choose a path of website and graphic design.
1999-2001
2001-2003
Mantaray Creative
This was the same company that I did my SAIT practicum with and I made sure to work really hard and become someone they could trust and rely on. This worked to my benefit as it landed me my first full-time position in the working world.
2003-2006
Freelance Web Designer
After building up my career with a local company, I had decided it was time for me to explore starting my own business and building up my own clientelle. I learned a lot starting my first business, called Gaia Media, with a friend from Mantaray Creative.
2003-2006
2006-2008
Buss Marketing
A very decent contract came my way that brought me into the world of real estate marketing. Working at Buss Marketing, we focused soley on real estate projects ranging from master-planned communities to luxurious resort properties in the Rocky Mountains. I learned a lot about that industry and enjoyed creating the subsequent marketing campaigns.
2008-2009
More Freelance Web Design
The real estate bubble crash in 2008 sent me in a new direction back to my freelance web design path but this time I was on a new mission to find a permanent full-time position. During this time, I managed to rebuild a decent clientelle and kept myself busy with new projects.
2008-2009
2009-2011
Web Candy
In June 2009, I was approached by this relatively new web design company called Web Candy. I was the second person to be hired into the company and had been key component to the company's success and growth. This became my full-time position as a lead designer.
2011-2022
Blue Ocean Interactive
Web Canady had expanded and changed it's name to Blue Ocean Interactive and I maintained my lead designer career. Blue Ocean went on to win the Consumer Choice Award for best website design in Southern Alberta for the last 10 years in a row and my position evolved from Lead Designer to Creative Director where I developed and managed multiple other designers on the team.
2011-2022
2018-Present
Fire Lotus Creative
Fire Lotus Creative is my website design and development company that is my latest path in my career. Utilizing the last 20+ years of my career and experiences, I look forward to continue to design professional and exciting websites and marketing campaigns.
Hobbies & Other Interests
One of my biggest passions in life is music. So much so that I started a band during my time in high school in 1997. I had been getting into music only a short while before this with junior and senior high band classes. I started out as a trumpet player but found my way to guitar and Heavy Metal.
By the end of high school, in 1999, I had built up a band and we decided to call ourselves Divinity. We played our first show at a local pub in Calgary, Alberta, called Morgan's Pub. It was a "Battle of the bands" night and we happened to win a bunch of the battles and it really pushed us to keep the band going and growing.
Fast forward to now, over 20 years later, the band is still going with multiple tours, albums and many great memories of playing shows of all sizes and with many different world-class music acts from around the world.

I am very grateful to live so close to such a wonderful place; The Rocky Mountains. Every year, as Spring rolls around, I start to plan and think about all the outdoor adventures I want to do and enjoy with my friends and loved ones.
I deeply enjoy getting out of the city and getting into raw, unfiltered nature and take in the fresh air and wildlife.
